Elective courses will cover more specialized topics in various areas of research. As respected practitioners and scholars who keep pace with the latest teaching techniques and technology, our professors are committed to helping you master the material.<\/p>\n<p>PhD &#8211; BPS faculty are part of the Department of Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Sciences in the College of Pharmacy. Their areas of research include neuro-pharmacology, physiology, pharmaceutics and drug delivery, pharmacokinetics, genetics, environmental toxicology, and molecular immunology. Faculty research is funded through pharmaceutical companies as well as federal and private foundation grants.<\/p>\n<p>The Office of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernu.edu\/lead\/lead-about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Learning Enhancement &amp; Academic Development Office<\/a>\u00a0(LEAD)\u00a0is another resource for on-campus and distance students. LEAD helps students connect academic success with wellbeing.\u00a0 In individual counseling sessions, students learn time management, test taking, and studying strategies. The main campus includes\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernu.edu\/campus\/campus-directions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">19 major buildings<\/a>. As a Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Sciences student you would primarily use classrooms in the Health Professions Center and 3,600 square feet of research laboratories in the University Research Center that include individual laboratories, cell culture and other facilities, a dark room, and a multi-species animal facility with the latest equipment to support faculty and student research.<\/p>\n<p>You will also make use of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernu.edu\/library\/\">Harriet K. and Philip Pumerantz Library<\/a>, a four-story 35,000-square-foot building renovated in 2021. The library features open and private study space, a food nook equipped with a refrigerator, microwaves, coffee station, a wellness room perfect for a study break, lockers, and more. The library has an extensive collection of print books and journals.
