2xl:w-7\/12\">\n        <h2>Conflicts of Interest in Research<\/h2>\n<p>A Conflict of Interest (COI) is when an Outside Interest is related to an investigator\u2019s institutional responsibilities and could or may appear to affect the design directly and significantly, conduct, or reporting of research.<\/p>\n<p>Outside financial interests should be reported per the research sponsors regulation. Outside financial interests are any financial interests and other personal interests or relationships with an external entity that are related to an investigator\u2019s institutional responsibilities. These financial interests include but are not limited to income, travel, equity, intellectual property rights. Positions constitute an outside financial interest whether paid or unpaid. Since investigators at WU are subject to WU policies, as well as State and Federal Regulations, the RCOI Committee makes recommendations based on these policies and regulations to the SVPRB regarding the management, reduction, or elimination of conflicts of interest among WU investigators. Anyone who discloses a COI in research; <strong>Disclosures will be made available to the Office of Research Regulatory Affairs and the Office for Sponsored Research and Contract Management.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When to Disclose:<\/strong><br \/>\nA.\u00a0 Covered Individual must disclose any interest that they and\/or their Family Members, as defined in section IV of the <a href=\"https:\/\/westernu.sharepoint.com\/sites\/PolicySite\/Approved%20Documents\/Conflicts%20of%20Interest%20in%20Research%20and%20Disclosure%20.pdf\">Conflicts of Interest in Research and Disclosure policy<\/a>, using the WesternU-approved disclosure form, must be made:<\/p>\n<p>i.\u00a0At least annually.<\/p>\n<p>ii. The RCOI Committee reviews the financial interest related to an investigator\u2019s research at a convened meeting.
