promotes adherence to the highest ethical standards in conducting research while encouraging innovation and productivity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Research Misconduct<\/strong> undermines the credibility not only of those directly involved, but also of the entire academic community. It represents a significant breach of trust between faculty, staff, and the institution.<\/p>\n<p>To safeguard research integrity, every individual involved in research, including faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and technicians, must maintain a permanent, auditable record of all experimental protocols, data, and findings. This is achieved through the diligence of all administrative officials. The funding agencies require the University to actively ensure the integrity of research, protect the rights of research subjects and the public, and adhere to legal requirements related to research funding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Principal investigators (PIs)<\/strong> have the primary responsibility for designing, implementing, and managing the research projects they oversee. They must ensure that standards of professional and ethical conduct are upheld throughout all phases of their projects. Additionally, they are tasked with the effective management of their resources.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;text-align: left\"><strong>\u00a0WesternU defines Research Misconduct as:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u2022 Fabrication, Falsification, or Plagiarism in proposing, performing, reviewing, or<br \/>\nreporting of Research data;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u2022 Violations of applicable law (including but not limited to federal, state or local<br \/>\nregulations);<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u2022 Failure to comply with requirements for the protection of human or animal<br \/>\nsubjects or the public; see also (IACUC Protocol Noncompliance, IRB Manual (<br \/>\nSection 4.12 Non-compliance))<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Examples include, but are not limited to<\/strong> (refer to the related polices linked within the Research Misconduct Policy<br \/>\nfor a comprehensive list):<br \/>\n&#x25aa; <em>Conducting Research that is not ethical. <\/em><br \/>\n<em>&#x25aa; Conducting Research activities (initial or modifications to an <\/em><br \/>\n<em>approved protocol) without prior approval from the relevant <\/em><br \/>\n<em>Research Regulatory Committee<\/em><br \/>\n<em>&#x25aa; Continuing Research-related activities beyond the protocol <\/em><br \/>\n<em>expiration date. <\/em><br \/>\n<em>&#x25aa; Conducting research-related activities by individuals not listed on a<\/em><em>n approved protocol for that activity<\/em><br \/>\n<em>&#x25aa; Failure to appropriately obtain informed consent\/assent<\/em><br \/>\n<em>&#x25aa; Fabricating or falsifying clinical and\/or basic science research data.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>&#x25aa; Failing to obtain or falsely attesting to having obtained IRB, IACUC, IBC or other <\/em><em>research-related oversight as required by both WesternU and any external <\/em><em>institution at which research is conducted under the applicable regulations.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u2022 Misappropriation of the University\u2019s and\/or sponsors\u2019 property or resources<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Violation of University\u2019s rules or policies governing Research or sponsors\u2019 rules or regulations related to Research.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Failure to follow financial disclosure regulations as required under WesternU Conflict of Interest policies<\/p>\n\n          <\/template>\n        <\/app-accordion-item>\n          <\/app-accordion>\n  <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"relative mt-48 md:mt-72\">\n  <div class=\"absolute top-128 bottom-0 left-0 w-full bg-gray\"><\/div>\n  <div class=\"container relative pb-80 md:pb-112\">\n    <div class=\"px-24\">\n      <div class=\"bg-red py-48 md:py-64 relative px-24 sm:px-40 text-white rounded-5 md:rounded-8 md:text-center overflow-hidden\">\n                <div class=\"relative\">\n                      <h2 class=\"t-h2-sans  block text-white\">Anonymous Report <\/h2>\n                                <p class=\"t-p2 mt-24 md:w-8\/12 mx-auto\">All individuals who observe or suspect research misconduct (or non-compliance) should report it to the Senior Vice President for Research and Biotechnology (SVPR). The SVPR will then engage the designated Research Integrity Officer (RIO) to initiate the inquiry into the allegation.
