Borrowing Services

Books for the Oregon Campuses and Off-Campus

The Books by Mail service is for Oregon campuses, Students on Rotations and in a Distance Education Program. We will mail you up to 2 books from the library collection.

  1. Search for your book on the library catalog or the library homepage Discovery Service Search.
  2. Submit the book request form on ILLiad.

If you are at one of the Oregon campuses, we will mail the book to the Bookstore at COMP-Northwest. If you are not near either campus, we will mail it to your preferred mailing address.

Books for the California Campus

Books and journals are located in the PLC basement. You can access it by using the elevator and your WesternU badge.

You can also place holds on books through the library catalog. We will email you when your hold is ready for pickup.

    If you are on the Pomona Campus, you can search for books in the library catalog and place it on hold to borrow. We will email you when your hold is ready for pickup.

    What can I place a hold on?

    You can place a hold on books in our general collection. This does not include reserve, media, and reference items. If the book is checked out, your name is added to a waitlist.

    How do I place a hold?

    1. Search for the item you want to borrow from either the library catalog or Pumerantz Library Discovery Service. If using the Pumerantz Libary Discovery Service, open the record in the catalog by selecting the “View Record in Library Catalog” button.
    2. Select the “Place Hold” button.
    3. Log in using your WesternU credentials. If you are not able to log in, contact Library Circulation at 909-469-5323 or email circ@westernu.edu.
    4. The holds window will open. Select the “Place Hold(s)” button.

    How many holds can I place?

    Students, faculty, and staff can place up to 10 items on hold.

    How long will my item(s) stay on hold?

    We will hold your item(s) for two days at the circulation desk.

    How do I cancel a hold?

    You can cancel it in person, by phone, or online through the library catalog.

    Canceling online:

    1. Go to the library catalog.
    2. From the top menu bar, select “My Account”.
    3. Log in using your WesternU credentials. If you are not able to log in, contact Library Circulation at 909-469-5323 or email circ@westernu.edu.
    4. Go to the “Holds” tab.
    5. Select the hold you want to cancel.
    6. Select the “Cancel Hold(s)” button.
    7. Select “Yes” to confirm.
  • Renew Books

    How can I renew material?

    You can renew online, in person, or by telephone. An item cannot be renewed if the item is on hold for another student.

    How do I renew online?

    1. Visit the library’s online catalog and select “My Account”.
    2. Enter your WesternU username (without ‘@westernu.edu’) and password.
    3. From the “Checkouts” tab, select the item(s) you want to renew.
    4. Select the “Renew” button. A message will appear confirming the renewal was successful.

    An item may not be renewed if the item is on hold for another student or if you have exceeded your renewal limit.

    If your items do not renew successfully, please call the circulation desk during library operating hours at (909) 469-5323.

  • Journals

    Use EBSCO’s Publication Finder to find a list of available journals in the library collection. The search will let you directly access online journals and identify journals available in print.

    • Request an Electronic Copy of an Article: We can send you a copy of an article from our print journal collection through the Document Delivery service. Submit an article request on ILLiad.
    • Print Journals in the Library Basement: If you are on the Pomona campus, visit the Library basement to access print journals. When you enter the basement from the elevator, turn left, and left again. These journals can only be used in the library.
    • Print Journals in Storage: Some of our journals are located off-site. If you are on the Pomona campus, call 909-469-5323 at least 48 hours before you need the journal. Print journals can only be used in the library.
