Welcome Week 2016 (New Student Orientation) is a wonderful opportunity for incoming students to learn about the University, COMP-Northwest, and to meet their new faculty, classmates and colleagues. There are exciting events during Orientation week designed to help you get a solid start as a COMP-Northwest student and introduce you to life in Lebanon. Attendance is mandatory unless noted. Convo-Cookout Student Social Event

The Convo-Cookout is a social event for COMP-Northwest STUDENTS ONLY. This will be your first opportunity to meet and mingle with your fellow classmates, faculty, staff and administration. You will be welcomed by the Dean of COMP-Northwest, Paula M. Crone, DO and have an opportunity to meet and socialize with the faculty, staff and current students of COMP-Northwest. We have several ice-breaker activities planned, so please be sure to dress in clothes that you can be active in!

Registration, Student Processing & WesternU Orientation
8:00 AM-5:00 PM | COMP-Northwest Campus
Arrive and check in at 8:00 AM. The class will be given an overview of the week and specific daily activities by Dr. Mirabelle FernandesPaul, Director of Student Affairs, and Ms. Kim DeKruif, University Registrar. Registration and processing stations will be open from 9 AM to 11 AM. Following registration and student processing, the Office of University Student Affairs will host lunch. University orientation will begin promptly at 12:50 PM in Lecture Hall I. We will close the day with presentations by members of medical and osteopathic organization in the region.
Good to know: Attire is professional and we will be taking your graduation photos. Lunch is provided. Also, bring your Laptop (for IT configuration) and medical equipment (if you have been approved for an exemption with your own equipment)

Please arrive at the church by 9:15 AM. We will start with an overview and important information about Saturday’s events. We will walk through entry, seating, coating, recognition, oath, and departure processes. Following lunch (on your own), please return to campus promptly at 1:00 PM to attend the President’s Ice Cream Social.
Good to know: Attire is professional and Map/Directions. Also, we suggest that you bring your white coat, pressed, and then leave it in the church.
President’s Ice Cream Social

Continuing the tradition started at COMP in 1977, COMP-Northwest will hold its fifth annual President’s Ice Cream Social. Each year, our founding President, Dr. Philip Pumerantz, would take great pride in greeting every incoming student at this event. You will also have the opportunity to socialize with your classmates, Lebanon faculty and staff, and visiting faculty from the Pomona campus.

Convocation and White Coat Ceremony

The Convocation ceremony marks the official opening to the academic year at WesternU. You will be formally welcomed as a WesternU student by the President, Board of Trustees and University Administration.
The White Coat Ceremony is part of the initiation, a “rite of passage,” for new health professions students; it is a time when you will be “cloaked” with your first white lab coat. This ritual, held in the presence of faculty, administration and family members, will make you aware of your responsibilities as healers from the very first day of training. The ceremony encourages you to accept the obligations inherent in your scope of practice: to be excellent in science; to be compassionate; and to lead a life of uprightness and honor. This annual ceremony marks what has become a valued tradition here at Western University of Health Sciences.
Good to know:
Attire is professional – Dress slacks, shirt and tie for men; dress slacks, dress, skirt and blouse for women
Ordering your White Coat – WesternU white coats are ordered through your Self-Service (Banweb) account, and will be distributed during student processing.
White Coats REQUIRED – Remember to BRING, but not wear, your ironed and unbuttoned white coat
Gold Foundation Pin – This pin should be placed on the left lapel of your white coat
Name Badge – Wear your name badge on your right chest below the lapel of your white coat
Early Arrival for Students – Please plan to arrive on the COMP-Northwest campus at 11:00 a.m. We will bus you to the ceremony location.
