Student Government Association

The Student Government Association (SGA) is the representative governing body of the students at Western University of Health Sciences, and consists of representatives from each class. The SGA works with the Board of Trustees, administration, faculty and staff, and other student organizations to bring about changes that will benefit the student body.

Two Ways to Lead Executive & Class SGA

As an EXECUTIVE officer, you will be able to affect change at the University level. As a CLASS officer, you will have an opportunity to represent your class in college and University decisions. Both options empower YOU to bring about positive change to your academic environment and further develop your leadership skills.
  • Become an Executive SGA Officer

    How to become an EXECUTIVE officer:

    Per the Student Body Bylaws, elections are held no later than the last week of February. The officers of President-elect and Vice-President-elect (Pomona and Lebanon) are to be someone who has been a member of the Student Senate.

    If you are interested in becoming an executive officer, complete the Executive Officer application and be sure to watch for e-mails about the election process.

    Available Positions:

    On-campus executive officer positions are President*, Vice President (Pomona)*, Vice President (Lebanon)*, Secretary, Treasurer and Club Coordinator.

    *Only current senators may apply to the President and Vice President positions.

    Application Process:

    All candidates must apply by the announced deadline, be in good academic standing and adhere to the election process outlined in the Student Body Bylaws.

        1. Complete an EXECUTIVE officer application.
        2. Meet with the Student Affairs Professional for you college (they must sign your application) and University Student Affairs.
        3. Attend the mandatory candidate meeting (watch for an e-mail) and bring your signed application.
        4. Present at open forum.

    How to become a CLASS officer:

    Available Positions:

    The Senate consists of class officers from all of the programs/colleges. Each class consists of the following positions. Refer to the Class Officer Application for a description of responsibilities by position.

    On-campus class officer positions are President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Recreation Leader, Curriculum Representative, Alumni Representative and Library/Technology Representative

    Off-campus class officer positions are Class Representatives.

    Term, Roles & Responsibilities:

    The term of office and responsibilities varies by program. Speak with your college’s Student Affairs Professional for more details.

    Application Process:

    Fall Elections

    Elections will occur for the following classes in September:

    First Year classes for DMD, DO, DO-NW, DPM, DPT, DPT-NW, DVM, OD, PharmD, MSNE and MSMS.

    Second Year class for MSNE.

    Third Year class for PharmD.

    Spring Elections

    Elections will occur for the following classes in March:

    All classes for MSHS, MSMS and MSBS.

    Second Year classes for MSPA and PharmD.

    Second & Third Year classes for DMD, DO, DO-NW, DPM, DPT, DPT-NW, DVM and OD.

    Fourth Year class for DMD.
