  • Narrative

I am a clinician-scientist by training and have over twenty years of experience working in academia in the US and Europe. My areas of specialization include cardiology (residency & masters-level thesis), physiology (PhD), nutrition (masters-level coursework), and public health (MPH). My clinical research has focused on congenital cardiac defects, cardiac imaging and cardiac biomarker analysis, while my basic research has emphasized development of bio-therapeutics inspired by host defense peptides viewed through the lens of evolutionary medicine. I am involved in ongoing collaborations rooted in evolutionary medicine with a focus on cardiology and psychiatry; and research on the microbiome in companion animals. My teaching has covered clinical cardiology, immunology/physiology, One Health/One Medicine, plant-based nutrition, and facilitation in context of problem-based learning.
