The Office of Special Projects oversees the Office of Humanism, Equity & Anti-Racism (HEAR) and the Office of Title IX & Equal Opportunity (OTIXEO). The Office of Special Projects supports the efforts of WesternU by ensuring exceptional coordination of resources of the academic and operational entities, providing mission integration leadership, and assuring integration of the University’s basic principles, including humanism, equity, inclusion, and diversity, into the fabric of the institution.

    Mission

    The Office of Special Projects supports Western University of Health Sciences’ mission by ensuring exceptional coordination of shared resources, guides university decision-making , and promotes community engagement and success in the health professions.

    Vision

    The vision is to be a strategic partner that guides the University on its path of continual improvement and leverage shared academic and cultural programming across the University in a manner that unites faculty, staff, and students in fulfilling the University’s vision.

  • Goals

    The goals for the Office of Special Projects include:

    • Provide resources for the University to continually improve with data-based decision making.
    • Align with WesternU’s mission and vision for the future.
    • Provide for shared resources across the University ensuring optimal deployment of talent to align with mission-critical initiatives.
    • Work to maintain a safe and healthy teaching, working, and learning environment in compliance with Title IX and its policy and procedures on Sexual Harassment and Sexual Misconduct.

    Our Commitment To HEAR

    Dr. Stephanie Bowlin, Senior Vice President for Special Projects, played a definitive role in creating WesternU’s Office of the Vice President for Humanism, Equity, and Anti-Racism. Dr. Bowlin, along with Dr. Manel Lopez-Bejar, Associate Dean in the College of Veterinary Medicine, co-chaired the Strategic Performance Initiative which engaged 30 committee members and 25 volunteers, including faculty, staff, students, senior leadership and deans to create plans resulting in the Office of Humanism, Equity, and Anti-Racism established in 2021.
