New Land Acquisitions

Dear Members of the WesternU and Pomona Communities,

It is with tremendous excitement and a profound sense of responsibility that I share news of Western University of Health Sciences’ recent acquisition of several land parcels in downtown Pomona.

This acquisition represents far more than an expansion of our physical campus. It is an investment in the future of our University, in the vitality of downtown Pomona, and most importantly, in the enduring relationship between WesternU and the community we are deeply honored to call home.

Since our founding in Pomona in 1977, WesternU has grown alongside this remarkable city. Our shared history has been defined by resilience, innovation, service, and a steadfast belief in the power of education and community partnership to transform lives. As we thoughtfully consider the future use of these properties, we are committed to proceeding in harmony with the City of Pomona, our neighbors, local businesses, civic organizations, and community leaders.

Our vision is to create welcoming and accessible spaces that enrich both the campus and the surrounding community. This may include opportunities to develop green spaces and parks together, including concepts such as a community dog park, while creating places where students, families, residents, and visitors can gather, connect, learn, and enjoy the heart of Pomona. We look forward to listening carefully and working collaboratively to ensure that future plans reflect shared aspirations and contribute meaningfully to the character, beauty, and vitality of our city.

This is an especially exciting time for WesternU and Southern California. In 2027, WesternU will celebrate its 50th anniversary, a milestone that invites us to honor our past while boldly envisioning our future. One year later, the world will come to our region for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, offering an extraordinary opportunity to showcase the vibrant culture, energy, creativity, and promise of Pomona, Greater Los Angeles, and the Inland Empire.

Against this historic backdrop, WesternU is eager to deepen its partnership with Pomona. Together, we can continue strengthening the city as a destination for health sciences education, compassionate care, research, culture, recreation, economic opportunity, and community life.

As our nation commemorates its 250th anniversary, we are also inspired to think across generations. Our aspiration is not simply to plan for the next several years, but to forge an enduring partnership between WesternU and the City of Pomona, one built to serve our communities for the next 250 years.

We approach this opportunity with humility, optimism, and immense gratitude.
