Reflecting on the 250th Anniversary of Independence Day

President’s Office

July 4, 2026

Dear WesternU Community,

As we observe Independence Day, we do so in a year of extraordinary historical significance: the 250th anniversary of the founding ideals that gave rise to the United States of America.

This milestone invites us not only to celebrate, but also to reflect. Two hundred and fifty years ago, a vision was set forth that affirmed liberty, self-determination, and the inherent dignity of human beings. Across generations, that vision has inspired courage, sacrifice, innovation, service, and a continuing commitment to build a more just, compassionate, and inclusive society.

At Western University of Health Sciences, these ideals resonate deeply with our mission. As a humanistic health sciences university, we are called to serve others, to advance knowledge, to reduce suffering, and to prepare future health professionals who will care for people with skill, humility, empathy, and respect. Our work is rooted in the belief that every person deserves dignity, opportunity, and access to compassionate care.

Independence Day also reminds us that the promise of our nation has always depended on people willing to serve something greater than themselves. We see that spirit every day across WesternU, in our students, faculty, staff, clinicians, alumni, trustees, and partners. Whether in our classrooms, laboratories, clinics, communities, or campuses in Pomona and Lebanon, our shared purpose is to improve lives and strengthen the communities we are privileged to serve.

As we mark this 250-year anniversary, may we do so with gratitude for those who came before us, compassion for one another, and renewed hope for the future we are building together. May this holiday be a time of rest, reflection, family, friendship, and appreciation for the freedoms and responsibilities we share.

On behalf of WesternU, I wish you and your loved ones a safe, peaceful, and meaningful Independence Day.
