About the Student-Employee Health Office

Student/Employee Health Office (SEHO) Goals

  1. To support the physical well-being of all students and employees.
  2. To work cooperatively with the Colleges to ensure student health clearance requirements are being met.
  3. To establish and maintain employee health records in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

The SEHO provides the following services:

  • Provides orders for select serum blood titers, tuberculosis tests, and immunizations.
  • Review and signs off on rotations health clearance forms. It will take 10 business days to complete this process.
  • Monitors employees whose jobs require health screening and surveillance, e.g., employees who work in patient care delivery or in certain types of research.
  • Coordinates monitoring for bloodborne pathogen exposures.
  • Provides information on communicable and infectious disease in accordance with the WHO, CDC, State of California, State of Oregon, and local public health offices.

Information will not be released without the expressed consent of the individual except for legal subpoenas and for some communicable diseases, which by law must be reported to the Department of Public Health, e.g. bloodborne pathogen exposure that converts to a positive Hepatitis B.

To All New Incoming Students

For all new incoming students in 2024-2025, you will submit your health clearance requirements using CastleBranch immunization management software.

For questions related to registration or your classes, contact the Registrar’s Office at registar@westernu.edu
  • Annual Influenza Vaccine

Students: The Annual Influenza Vaccine is due each year by November 30th. All students must send documentation showing they have received this vaccine to stu-emphealth@westernu.edu or a hold will be placed on their account. If your college has an earlier due date, then you must follow that due date. Please ensure that you have included your college, graduation year, and WesternU ID number on the top of the document.

Employees: The flu vaccine is strongly encouraged, but not required.

  • What to do if you are experiencing COVID-19 Symptoms

What to do if you are experiencing symptoms of a possible respiratory infection:

Stay home and away from others and test for COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status or previous infection. Those at high risk for severe illness from other respiratory viruses should consult with their healthcare provider about getting tested for flu and/or RSV.

See LAC DPH COVID-19 guidance: Learn about Symptoms and What to do If you are Sick.

    • If you test positive for COVID-19 or a doctor tells you that you have COVID-19, you must submit the COVID-19 Report Survey and follow the instructions you receive.
    • If you test negative for COVID-19, but you still have symptoms, stay home away from others. You can resume normal activities when you have been fever-free without the help of fever-reducing medicines for at least 24 hours.
Remember: Tests can miss early infection. Antigen tests (including self-tests) are more likely to miss early infections than PCR tests. If you test negative for COVID-19, take at least one more COVID-19 test 48 hours later. Read and follow all test instructions correctly. See FDA instructions on repeat testing.
  • What to do if you test positive for COVID-19

What to do if you test positive for COVID-19

If you have COVID-19, you must:

    • Submit a COVID-19 Report Survey, regardless if you have symptoms or not.
    • Follow guidance below based on whether you have symptoms are not:
    • Tell your close contacts that they could be infected.

People with COVID-19 Who HAVE Symptoms:

    • Stay home and isolate from others while having symptoms and/or fever, as instructed below. If around others at home and in public, wear a well-fitting, high-quality respiratory mask.
    • May end isolation if fever-free for 24 hours without taking medicine that lowers fevers, such as medicine that contain acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or naproxen, AND either have no symptoms or symptoms are mild and improving.
    • LAC DPH strongly recommends that persons test negative prior to leaving isolation.
    • If leaving isolation before day 10, wear a well-fitting, high-quality respiratory mask around others for 10 days after symptoms began or the date of initial positive test.

People with COVID-19 Who DO NOT HAVE Symptoms:

    • Are not required to isolate only if wearing a well-fitting, high-quality mask for 10 days after first testing positive in all settings when around others.

Remember, persons who test positive for COVID-19, whether or not they have symptoms, may transmit the virus to others for up to 10 days.

Upon submission of the COVID-19 Report Survey, you will receive email instructions regarding isolation and other return-to campus information.

Please notify your supervisor and/or faculty/college for any days that you may be absent.

Students who are on clinical rotations may follow guidance provided from your clinical site to return.

Please contact COVIDTracing@westernu.edu if you have any questions.

The WesternU Pharmacy provide COVID Therapeutics and Testing. Please contact 909-706-3730 for additional info.

  • What to do if you are exposed to someone with COVID-19

    Instructions for close contacts:

As long as a close contact does not have symptoms, they do not need to stay away from others. They should take steps to lower the risk of spreading COVID-19 to others.

To count the days: Day 0 is the day of last contact (exposure) with the infected person.

    1. Wear a well-fitting, high quality makes indoors around others through Day 10
    2. Test for COVID-19 within 3-5 days after last exposure.
      • Close contacts with symptoms should test as soon as possible after exposure.
      • If testing negative before Day 3, retest during the 3–5-day window following exposure, with at least 24 hours between the first and second test.
      • Note: Close contacts who were previously infected with COVID-19 in the last 30 days or less, do not need to test unless symptoms develop. Close contacts who were previously infected with COVID-19 in the past 31-90 days should use an antigen test to lower the risk of false positives.
      • If the test result is positive, stay home away from others, submit COVID-19 Report Survey and follow the instructions above for a confirmed COVID-19 case.
    3. Monitor health through Day 10
      • If symptoms develop, stay home and test right away.
      • If the test result is positive, stay home away from others, submit COVID-19 Report Survey and follow the instructions above for a confirmed COVID-19 case.
